As you can see in the photograph above, Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren is happy to have just this minute finished the ASRV Halloween Quiz. He thinks he’s done pretty well. Unfortunately for him, Jurgen Klopp is also smiling – because he got a higher score…. BOOM!

Undoubtedly you all did brilliantly on the quiz too? Lots of people were telling us how tough it was, so maybe we’ll make the Christmas quiz a bit easier. Or maybe not. We like to make you think…

The highest score we have heard of so far is 16 out of 30 – did you beat that? Let us know! Also get in touch if you spot any errors or omissions. We try to be as accurate as possible, but it’s been all Lemsips and Strepsils at ASRV this week as the Editor has had a rotten cold. Not conducive to focusing on the task at hand!

And after all that, here’s the answers…

  1. The Red DevilsManchester United OR the Belgian national team (and numerous others if you want to be really geeky…)

  5. Das Phantom – Roy Makaay (Netherlands/Deportivo de la Coruña)
  6. The Blue Vampires – ACF Gloria Bistrita (Romanian club – now defunct?)

  8. The Flying Dutchman – Robin van Persie (Netherlands/Feyenoord – reference to a famous nautical ghost story)
  9. The (Non) Flying Dutchman – Dennis Bergkamp (Netherlands/Arsenal – due to his fear of flying)
  10. The Black Cats – Sunderland AFC (the story of the original Black Cat is here)
  11. Fox Mulder – Dan Petrescu (Romania/Chelsea – his resemblance to the X-Files character was quite uncanny in his younger days!)

  13. Merlin – David Silva (Spain/Manchester City)

It’s Halloween! So here’s some suitably seasonal football fun for you all…

It may not be the catchiest of titles, but this quiz does what it says on the tin – you’ll find a list of spooky, creepy, magical, and/or gruesome football nicknames below, and all you have to do is name the player, manager or club they refer to.

Some are very easy, some not so easy, and some… are fiendishly difficult (insert evil cackle here). These questions have been tested on a willing volunteer, who confirmed that they are indeed of sufficient fiendishness.

So how many can you get (with or without googling)? Post a comment or tweet us with your answers. The solution will be revealed in the next few days…. GO!
